Ron Edwards was born in Queens, N.Y., and enlisted in the Marines in 1981. After being honorably discharged, he headed to Los Angeles to pursue a career in music. His savings didn’t last long, and he wound up living on the streets for four months.
He would eventually go on to found his own advertising company, Focus Advertising Specialties, Ltd. But he never forgot his experience as a homeless veteran and wrote a tribute song to shine a light on the more than 250,000 homeless veterans in this country.
John Edwards foregrounded the scandal of homeless veterans during his campaign for the Presidency. Barack Obama has sponsored legislation in the U.S. Senate since 2005 to shelter veterans and has trumpeted the cause in his bid for the White House.
Ron Edwards composed the song You Have Forgotten Me and has set up a Web site where voters can listen to the song and make a donation to help support homeless veterans.
