Dan Guerrero has been professionally involved in the performing arts for more than three decades, both as an actor and a talent agent. His career has taken him from East Los Angeles to New York City and back again. Along the way, he reconnected to his Hispanic heritage and has been working to promote a more positive image for Latinos in the entertainment industry.
He recently returned to the stage to perform in Gaytino!, a poignant and often comic one-man memoir that brings to life his childhood and his relationship with his legendary father. The late musician Lalo Guerrero, known as the father of Chicano music, was an ally of United Farm Workers co-founders Cesar Chavez and Dolores Huerta and performed throughout the Central Valley of California as well as internationally. In 1996, he became the first Chicano to receive the National Medal of Arts.
Dan Guerrero's career bridges the Mexican-American community, the labor movement, and the LGBT fight for freedom and equality. Gaytino! draws on this rich tradition of showbiz and politics. Among reviewers' points of praise for the show is its portrayal of the interconnected lives of artists and activists who have fueled the civil rights struggles of the past five decades.
